Dear Proto-Pythonista,

Welcome! This is the first of a few emails we expect to send in anticipation of the Python Bootcamp 2013, to be held at the Brower Center (downtown Berkeley) from August 26 to August 28.

1) ACTION REQUIRED: We've had an overwhelming amount of interest this year and thus would like you each to formally register for the bootcamp through our Eventbrite site:

    https://pythonbootcamp2013.eventbrite.com/

Please do so by immediately to save your spot. YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED A SPOT UNTIL YOU SIGN UP at  https://pythonbootcamp2013.eventbrite.com/

We ask a small fee for everyone associated with the UC and national labs to help defray costs. Industry participants will be asked to pay a few which is substantially less than what bootcamp-for-hire companies charge.

2) In the next few days we'll be sending emails describing what you'll need to do to get yourself up and running before the bootcamp. Please make sure you can bring a laptop (your own or on loan) for all three days of the bootcamp.

3) This is also the good time to start working through the official Python tutorial if you haven't already:

   http://docs.python.org/tutorial/

4) We still have some spaces available for the semester-long seminar "Python Computing for Data Science" which is an in-depth follow-on to the bootcamp. The seminar (AY250; CCN 06080) will meet Thursdays from 1-4PM (place TBD). Consider enrolling through the normal channels.

That's it for now.

Josh Bloom and Fernando Perez, on behalf of all the Camp Counselors
