Python Computing for Scientific Research

This was the main site for the Python Boot Camp Fall 2012, held on the UC Berkeley Campus from August 20 (Monday) to August 22 (Wednesday) 2012 in #1 LeConte. The purpose of the boot camp was to get those familiar with other computing languages (like C, Java, FORTRAN, and Lisp) ramped on the basics of the Python language. This was not a computer science class; understanding of basic CS concepts (like looping, recursion, etc.) are presupposed. The Boot Camp itself was a mixture of formal lectures, in-class demos, coding breakout sessions for participants, and homework projects. The Camp ran from 8:30am to 5pm each day and is open to anyone within the UC Berkeley community.

If you are interested in a detailed introduction to various Pythonic topics to aid in research, consider the "Python Computing for Scientific Research" seminar course (Monday 2-5pm; Fall 2012, CC #06082). Graduate and undergraduate students wishing to participate in the course should register for that course by normal means. Those wishing to sit in on a few lectures should contact us at ucbpythonclass@gmail.com.

You must have registered to participate in the Camp and doing so early means we can stay in touch with you with any new developments. If you are on the waiting list, we'll be in touch in the days preceding the camp. In the days leading up to the Boot Camp you'll need to install some software and make sure it all works. Go to the Preparation page to get started. If you have any questions, please email us at ucbpythonclass+bootcamp@gmail.com.

This Boot Camp (and the related Seminar course AY250) were made possible in part from a grant from the Computer Science and Engineering Program (CSE) at UC Berkeley and the National Science Foundation (NSF) (Award #0941742).
